The seven-month suspension of Parliament and recent developments have exposed flaws in our democracy which affect our fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead of shunning elected politicians for an oligarchy of experts and technocrats which may require the backing of military and police and end civilian government, Malaysia must reform and empower its Parliament to function as a multipartisan forum of policy competition and collaboration.
